Swiss director and sociologist Milo Rau likes to create “light” plays besides his full-scale productions. Accordingly, he initiated the series History(ies) of the theater, “a performance investigation on the oldest art form of humanity”. Conceived as an “allegorical criminology game” borrowed from the work of philosopher Kierkegaard, La Reprise is based on a news item, the homophobic murder of Ihsane Jarfi in 2012. By piecing together the investigation from an archival and allegorical standpoint, Milo Rau finds a way to take us back to the birth of tragedy.
