Director and head of Théâtre du Point du Jour in Lyon, Gwenaël Morin, revisits Living Theater’ show Paradise Now, created in July 1968 at Festival d’Avignon. “I intend to restageParadise Now for May 2018. And for that I want to use the text written after the fact by Julian Beck Judith Malina (Living Theater founders), which describes the various stages of the play, their implementation process and dramaturgic underpinnings. I want to call this reprise Re-Paradise. I would like to revive as closely as possible the old forms built into Paradise Now and see how they hold up today. Paradise evokes a world without violence.Paradise Now demands that world “now”. Like the Ancient Greek tragedies, this play aims to have a cathartic effect by offering theatrical rites in order to break free from violence”.
